Suggest Treatment For Persistent Cough After Aortic Valve Replacement

default
Posted on Tue, 25 Aug 2015
Question: I had a aortic valve replacement 5 years ago in a minimally invasive procedure. An upper rib was cut for the procedure and then wired. I developed a cough after the procedure and now the rib floats and when a cough there is a bubble in my chest. Presently I have a persisent cough that seems centered in my upper chest. Is there a possibility that the floating rib is causing an irritation that is contributing to the cough.

Brief Answer:
Check your medicines/ see lung specialist

Detailed Answer:
Hi friend
Welcome to Health Care Magic

There are several possibilities –
The rib is least likely to be the cause
Drugs – especially ACEI (Angiotensin Converting Enzyme Inhibitors). There are several of them and under several trade names… And they are usually given to most people with heart problems. Check with your Primary care provider, whether it is one of the drugs you are taking
Left heart failure is one – but there would be other symptoms like breathlessness etc.. and your doctor is unlikely to have missed
Allergy – particularly from inhalation. Consult a Pulmonologist (lung specialist). Examination may reveal mild asthma. X-ray of the chest and PFT (pulmonary Function Tests) can throw more light.

Good luck
God bless you
