Question: Hi, my name is XXXXXXX I am a 57 year old female. For about 6 months now I have been spitting or coughing up phlem. Sometimes it is thick and yellow. I seem to have more in the morning and every time I eat of drink anything.

I appreciate your concern

Based on your description, it appears to be a lower respiratory tract infection. Sputum for AFB, chest x ray and complete blood count , ESR should be done. If there is evidence of chest infection on these investigation plus clinical findings on auscultation in associated with fever, cough and sputum then antibiotics should be taken. Clarithromycin or levofloxacin would be a good choice.
