Question: i think our daughter has pneumonia. we are in ukraine and the doctors here do not have a good handle on her symptoms because the hospital we are in only has a gynecologist on duty. it is a disaster. she has a persistent cough over 3 days, temperature over 101, sweats and her mucous is green/yellow. please advise what we can do as the options here are limited...we are scared!

Detailed Answer:
Hi and welcome.
I am sorry about you situation, but I still believe that your doctor will do best for her. Most pneumonia in kids are mild and can be treated with oral antibiotics such as amoxicilin for 10-14 days. If there is no improvement after 2 days or there is constant fever and cough, then the child should be admitted to hospital and intravenous antibiotics should be given such as amoxiclav, azitromycin or cephalisporines. In every case, there should be everyday follow up at her doctor and blood tests and xrays should be repeated if there is no improvement. Wish you good health. Regards
