Suggest Treatment For Persistent Cough With Excessive Mucus
You seem to have acquired chest infection
Detailed Answer:
Hello Sir
Welcome to HCM..
You seem to have acquired chronic chest infection..Steroids are recommended for short term relief and it can exacerbate the infection and ongoing cell damage. Therefore if I were your treating doctor, I would stop it unless there is another reason suggested by your doctor. I would suggest sputum culture and chest x ray and then decide the line of treatment. Avoid smoking/cold drinks and encourage fruits/vegetable diet( mucusless diet).I suggest you to prefer a suitable environment for reducing the disease progression.Do saline water gargling thrice a day for throat irritation and OTC throat lozenges can be taken when needed. Further management will depend on the culture report.
Hope my answer helps.Take care.

Pulmonologist opinion
Detailed Answer:
Hello Sir
Thank for following up
I feel its highly unlikely for such co or super infection. If I were your physician, would have advised chest physio and also expectorant like bromhexine. In case of severe cough associated with muscle ache, you can take codeine and acetaminophen under your treating doctor's consultation. At this age, supportive measures like breathing exercises, yoga will help.Saturation of 96% without oxygen support is normal.
If these don't help, it would be wise to seek pulmonologist who have tremendous experience dealing with such problems.
Hope I was of help.
Take care
