Brief Answer:
Medicines, stool tests, Colonoscopy

Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Thanks for your query.
Read and understood the history about your wife.
My suggestion would be as follows:
First of all send the samples of stool for three consecutive days.
Tests of blood: routine, sugar, liver and kidney functions and others as may be needed.
Tests of urine.
Ultrasound of abdomen.
Clinical evaluation and exination by a Doctor and also to get appropriate prescription for an antibiotic, metronidazole, probiotics and others as necessary.
Further treatment as directed by the reports.
Colonoscopy and CT scan of the abdomen as per the age to rule out any serious underlying problems.
I hope this answer helps to get an early diagnosis and proper treatment.
