Suggest Treatment For Persistent Ear Pain And Sharp Pain In Head
Question: My husband has been experiencing an ear ache and "stingers", intermittent sharp little pains in his head above the same ear on the right side. He is physically very fit, said he has had them before, but this time it seems to really be bothering him.
Brief Answer:
He needs ear examined by ENT surgeon.
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thank you for your query on HCM.
I have read your query and understand the concern.
It could be because some middle ear infection or fluid retention inside ear canal but one can comment exactly only after the complete ear examination done with Otoscope.
Also, provide me more information regarding your husband ear pain,
Is there any discharge from ear?
Since when he is experiencing ear pain?
Fever or any other ENT symptoms?
Has he taken any medications apart from OTC pain killer?
Kindly get back to me with this information.I will give my opinion after that.

He has had the ear ache for 2 or 3 days, he said it isn't worse, just annoying, but he wouldn't be mentioning it if it wasn't bothering him. I think he is concerned about the "stingers". There is no discharge from the ear. He takes 1 baby aspirin every night, and vitamins, that is it. He is not likely to want to go to the doctor or an urgent care.
Brief Answer:
Go for ENT examination.
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for the immediate response.
It could be related to middle ear infection or excess wax deposition or might be some fluid retention but it must be examined by the Otoscope for a once to arrive at a certain conclusion.
Without examination it is very difficult to comment exactly.
So,your husband may require wax remover ear drops or antibiotic ear drops with oral antibiotics and other symptomatic medications after complete ENT check up.
Here I can understand that your husband might be little uncomfortable to see an ENT specialist but as I said earlier, without ear examination it is very difficult to comment on some possible diagnosis of ear. So,he should see ENT specialist to rule out above possibilities one by one.
Meanwhile he may continue to take OTC pain killers for symptomatic relief and yes,wax remover ear drops will also be available over the counter.
