Suggest Treatment For Persistent Fever And Sore Throat

Question: Hi, My husband, age 34 years is suffering from mild fever between 98.7 degree F to 100 degree F since last seven days. However initially, the fever XXXXXXX to 101 degree F for one or two times and was also having sore throat. But now its between the range mentioned earlier and throat is better. He is also having cough congestion in the chest. Doctor has given following tablets - Dolo 650 (3 times a day), Relent Capsule (night time), Cefpodom tablet(twice a day) and also a multivitamin tablet (once a day for 15 days). He took these for a week. But still he is having mild fever which comes to normal after taking Dolo 650. We also did few tests like CBC, Parasites, Xray. All were normal. I am really very much worried. Can you please guide us. Thanks.

Hi, I am Dr Anshul Varshney , I have read your query in detail , I understand your concern.

Persisting fever for more then 7 days requires evaluation of the cause particulary Typhoid fever, Malaria.

In initial days of fever, blood tests can come normal.

Viral fever usually doesn't persist for more then 5 days.

So, i would recommend you to get his following tests done:
1. Complete blood count
2. Widal Test
3. Malaria Antigen
4.Typhi DOT- IgM

These days typhoid fever is on rise, so requires evaluation.

So, get his tests done and write back to me with reports.

Thanks. I have also uploaded the Widal test report for your comments. Now he is having mild fever around 98.8 F to 99.2 F in a day since last three days and it goes off on its own without taking a tablet.

Hi, Widal test has significance only if the titres are rising in nature. So, I need to compare his previous report of widal test with the current one.
In fact, this is the reason we always advice our patients to go for Typhi Dot test along with Widal test.
In case, he is fine now, I would recommend nothing to be done.
In case, he gets fever again get a repeat Widal test and we would compare the titres.
