Suggest Treatment For Persistent Fever In Infants

The doctor we consulted asked us to consult him to day so that he will write some tests and then give an injection
meanwhile my daughter started complaining about stomach ache since yesterday and did loose motions four times, today morning after giving medicine she vomited and did loose motions twice .
Is it OK to give injection for this kid of 23 months or should we go for antibiotics ?
Most likely viral gastroenteritis
Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for asking on this platform
I can understand your concern.
The most common cause of fever with loose motion and vomiting in this age is some viral infection.
In your case as diarrhoea started after 2-3 days of fever while on antibiotic,it may be drug induced diarrhoea.
Nestclav contains amoxycillin an antibiotic and it can cause diarrhea in children.
She is already getting antibiotics.
Stool in viral diarrhea is not mixed with blood and mucus.Antibiotic is indicated in bacterial diarrhea(mixed with blood or mucus).
The main aim of management is to prevent dehydration by giving plenty of fluids ( ORS ).
Antiemetic (drug to decrease vomiting) will be needed to stop vomiting so that oral acceptance does not get compromised.
Giving probiotics with zinc helps in early recovery.
It may take 5-7 days for the fever to subside completely and stool to get back to its normal pattern.
I won't get worried if severity of fever has been decreased, baby is active/playful,accepting feeds, passing urine adequately and stool is not mixed with blood or mucus.
She may need tests if fever is still high grade(not improving trend) or general condition is poor.
I would suggest you to get her evaluated by your pediatrician for proper evaluation(if there is dehydration or other signs of bacterial infection) and management (blood or stool test, need of probiotic/zinc/antiemetic or other medication) accordingly.
I hope this helps.
Please let me know if you have any more query.
Wishing for your baby's speedy recovery.
Regards
