Suggest Treatment For Persistent Hypothyroidism
Question: I have had hypothyroidism for 10 years. I recently had an ultrasound of my thyroid. The right lobe measured 5.1x1.6x1.9 cm. The left lobe measured 5.2x1.8x1.7 cm. The isthmus measured 0.2 cm. Nodules were noted to be dominant on the right side 1.6x0.9x1 cm. Subcentimeter nodules were seen in the upper pole on the right. Mild vascularity increase is seen diffusely throughout with a mild micronodular pattern. A dominant nodule in lower pole on the right is seen which is solid. Does this warrant a FNA?

In such a clinical setting I preferably suggest you to go for an FNAC (Ultrasound-guided fine-needle aspiration cytology (this is biopsy of thyroid to see what type of cells are there in thyroid gland nodules).
FNAC is the gold standard diagnostic tool for thyroid gland nodules workup. FNAC assures early diagnosis that secures a good prognosis for the patient even if God forbid he/she has a carcinoma.
