Suggest Treatment For Persistent Intermittent Cough In Child

Most likely due to hyperreactive airway disease as suggested
Detailed Answer:
Hi
I have gone through your question and the medical history. I agree with the diagnosis as suggested by your pediatrician. Hyperreactive airway disease is the most likely reason for such long lasting coughs with no associated fever, weight loss and poor activity.
Aerocort is appropriate for treatment but always ensure use of spacer ( Zerostat) and mask for proper delivery of dose. Also, rinse his mouth properly after every use. There is no need for Syp. Levolin along with aerocort. You may increase the dose as per symptoms if required after proper clinical examination and discussion with treating doctor. Montex LC kid will be useful. Continue aerocort and Montex LC kid for at least 2 months after complete control of the symptoms.
A diet rich in proteins and vitamin C with plenty of fluids will be useful for long term immunity. Also, try to avoid allergens to which your child is sensitive. Use room humidifier while sleeping if the weather is dry.
Hopefully it will be of help. I would be happy to help you in any further questions.

His cough and running nose usually starts with fever for which we give him calpol 120 when the fever is more than 101. While in he has these symptoms he also has breathlessness sleep/stuffed nose and wakes up every hour at night.
We are not sure what he is allergic to. Please suggest some long term remedy and also if there is any dietary recommendation (do's and don't).
Ensure a healthy balanced diet and regular breathing exercises
Detailed Answer:
Hi
Many a times allergic reactions can be triggered by mild viral infections as in your child. But the long term prognosis is good if well managed. So, continue with the medications as advised earlier with good compliance.
Also, ensure a healthy balanced diet rich in proteins, calcium and vitamin C. This may include pulses, soya beans, nuts esp. almonds and walnuts, veggies, fish, amla, eggs, dairy products, citrus fruits etc. Ensure plenty of water intake daily.
Breathing exercises such as toys ( like balloons, trumpets) which require blowing out will be useful.
Hopefully it will be of help.
