Suggest Treatment For Persistent Loose Bowel Movements

default
Posted on Wed, 14 Oct 2015
Question: I am having continual bowel movements that are very violent, loose, and gassy. I have eliminated dairy from my diet and that seemed to help some, but it is still ongoing. I HAVE to be near a bathroom all the time. I am not having any nausea. Nor am I having and blood in my stool. But this is very limiting and very uncomfortable. This has been going on constantly for about 3 weeks.

Brief Answer:
Colonoscopy should be done.

Detailed Answer:
Hello!

Thank you for the query.

Such symptoms can be caused by several issues including bacterial infection, inflammatory bowels disease or even partial bowels obstruction due to colon cancer.
Over the age of 50 the risk of colon cancer significantly rises. That is why, every change in bowels habit should be checked with colonoscopy. No doubt in that.
Moreover, no matter in what age, any diarrhea which lasts longer than 48 hours needs doctor attention.

That is why I suggest you to do not wait any longer. Please consult your doctor. Stool test, stool culture test, blood work and colonoscopy have to be done to determine the reason of such symptoms.

Hope this will help. Feel free to ask further questions.
Regards.

I did have a colonoscopy 2 years ago, with no issues at all. The next one was recommended in 5 years. I have sent in stool samples for analysis, and am waiting for results. Thank you for your reply and opinion. You would still recommend another colonoscopy?

Brief Answer:
Wait for stool samples results first.

Detailed Answer:
I would wait for the stool results first. As you have had colonoscopy 2 years ago, colon cancer is hardly possible. So wait for stool tests and if nothing will be found in the stool, than you should consider colonoscopy.
You may also discuss with your doctor Rifaximine treatment for infection.
