Question : Hello! One week ago after eating very spicy food I started to feel pain in stomach. Doctor said that it was gastritis and prescribed Prilosec. I'm taking it for 5 days now and still feel pain. How long does it usually take to treat gastritis?

Brief Answer:
Time taken depends of many factors.

Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Thanks for your query and an elucidate history.

It says: pain in stomach, after very spicy food, 1 week ago - Prilosec prescribed for gastritis - pain in spite of 5 days of Prilosec - Query about how long does it take to treat Gastritis.

I would suggest you the following before I answer your query as you have to get well soon:
-Continue Prilosec
-Add Ranitidine (as it works in a different way with the same effects) 150 at 12 hourly interval.
-Antacid get like Mucaine gel 3 teaspoonful every 3 hours and preferably when you are empty stomach.
-Domperidone at 8 hourly interval
-Soft bland diet.
-If tress or anxiety, ask your Doctor for a prescription based medicine.
-No smoking or drinking ( if you do)

-Get upper GI Endoscopy to see the extent of the Gastritis and associated problems.
** this is the deciding factor to know how much time would it take to treat gastritis along with the proper medication, diet, stress or anxiety relieving and so on.

I hope this answer helps you to get an early and complete relief.
Please feel free to ask for more if you need to or if you feel there is a gap-of-communication.
