Suggest Treatment For Persistent Pelvic And Mild Abdominal Pains
Question: I'm not sure whether to be concerned or not.
I have been at the doctor's twice in the last two weeks.
I went the first time as I had been experiencing persistent pelvic and mild abdominal pains, sometimes accompanied with a sore back. This had been going on for about 6 weeks so I thought it would be best to get it checked.
While at the doctor's he took a urine sample and said there was a very very small trace of white blood cells, so he gave me trimethoprim for a urine infection.
However, the antibiotics made no difference to any of my symptoms. I went back after I had finished the course.
When I went back, I still had the same pains I had came for originally, and also mentioned the fact that I can get uncomfortable legs when I am relaxed or going to sleep.
He tested my urine again and said it was clear and that he was not convinced I even had a urine infection because the traces were so low. He sent the sample off to the lab anyway and I should get the results in a couple of days.
The doctor examined my abdomen and said that he couldn't feel anything unusual, other than possibly being a little bloated. He checked for hernias as well. He said that he didn't think it was anything to worry about and that if it persisted come back.
However I am getting so panicky that it could be something serious!
There was a slight trace of blood when I passed stool yesterday. I wasn't very much, just a small spot on the toilet paper. Also, I noticed that the skin around my anus is slightly red, though it isn't itchy.
The pelvic and abdominal pains are still persisting, and I think my chest is a bit achy as well. The pains come and go. They are not debilitating pains, just pains that I am aware of.
I have had a period since I last had sex, so I don't think I could be pregnant, and the dr did a pregnancy test anyway and it came back negative. I have only ever had one sexual partner, and he is the same, so I don't think there could be any risk of a STI either.
I am 19, I am fairly active, I have never smoked, I don't drink very often and I eat quite healthily. My only past medical history is Coeliac disease, which I keep well controlled (there is no chance my symptoms are due to gluten intake)
I'm just really scared that this could be something serious and the dr just is ruling loads of serious things out cause I'm not exactly an at risk patient. What do you think?

Brief Answer:
need pelvic and rectal exams
Detailed Answer:
Hello and thank you for your question.
There are a number of things this could be including some sort of pelvic infection or bowel infection. I think you really need to go back to your doctor and really insist on a more complete exam. It may not be anything serious but it really needs to be checked out to be sure. Let me know if you have further questions.
