Suggest Treatment For Persistent Watery Stool
Diet modification with or without antidiarrheal medications
Detailed Answer:
Hey Miss XXXXX
i understand that your quite annoyed due to longstanding history of diarrhea since your gall bladder was removed.
firstly, you need to understand why gall bladder is important and why diarrhea occurs ( in some patients, not all, due to unknown reasons).
Gall bladder STORES bile which is important in fat digestion and may also act as a laxative.
after gall bladder is removed, bile can NOT be stored may spill into intestine and may cause the symptoms your suffering from (diarrhea). In brief, Bile regulation is IMPAIRED after gall bladder removal. Diarrhea may resolve with passage of time in most patients.
further advice:
1. avoid fat food altogether, AVOID coffee and dairy products and sweet food
2. include banana, and yogurt in your diet (esp yogurt maybe ingested before meals)
3. ingest small meals (rice or toast)
4. ispagula husk maybe mixed with yogurt and ingested
5. visit treating physician and discuss if loperamide (antidiarrheal agent) maybe taken and if colonoscopy is required to rule out colon disease as your age>80
6. Baby wipes OR water maybe used to gently clean without causing irritation.
hope to answer your concern.
wish you good health.
