Suggest Treatment For Petechiae
Question: I am a 33 yr old female with fair skin who has never tanned before. In my early 20's, i developed petechiae on all my extremities. I was diagnosed at that time with a Factor VIII deficiency (mild). I now have increasing petechiae after 3 sessions in tanning bed. What could be cause(s)?
Brief Answer:
Test it
Detailed Answer:
The deficiency of clotting factors may be genetic, or due to liver damage (basically).
So if you had a mild deficiency initially, the chances are that the deficiency is persisting.
A reduction in any other component that helps clotting like platelets, or a minor infection like viral infection (that reduces platelets) may cause petechiae.
Best test it again.
If deficiency persists, FFP or Factor VIII transfusion may be needed.
Best of luck
