Brief Answer:
Corticosteroids with antivirals
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for your query.
Sorry for the delay in my response.
If Valaciclovir had no effect on the infection, the next option would be using famiciclovir. A better regime would be if combined with corticosteroids like prednisone. The effects is confirmed useful if put on this combination.
Continue applying Abreva if its helping.
Discuss with your dermatologist about the new combination, I suggested.
Wish you good health.

Brief Answer:
Herpes zoster
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for writing back.
The infection is called herpes zoster. It is reactivation of an STD herpes simplex gained in past. No, it is not contagious as herpes simplex.
No, do not take any medication if the lesions have gone. Keep the combo regime reserved for future as there are chances of recurrence.
Wish you good health.
