Suggest Treatment For Pimple Like Bump On Back Along With Rashes

default
Posted on Mon, 6 Jul 2015
Question: I am a 30-yr-old woman living in New England. Recently, I discovered a pimple-like bump on my back near my right shoulder. I thought it was just acne from using a new lotion, but today it has a quarter-sized red rash around it. I know about tick bites, but I don't remember seeing or feeling a tick on my back. The bump does not itch, either, and is only tender if touched. So far, no flu-like symptoms. I made an appt with my doctor for next week to get it checked. If it's not Lyme-related, what else might it be?

Brief Answer:
Most probably localized allergy

Detailed Answer:
hello

thank you for contacting HCM. i'm Dr M Ali Rauf and will look into your problem.

i've gone through your query and would try to help you in best possible way. your symtptoms are suggesting localozed allergic response, most probably by an insect bite. it usually resolves itself in few days. meanwhile following measures will help further:

- cetirizine one at night for 3 days
- apply fusidic acid ointment over the rash in small amount.
- wash hands before and after touching it.

hopefully you will see improvement in 2-3 days BUT if condition remains same or aggravates then you need to visit hospital for further workup.

hope i have answered your question. if you have any query then feel free to ask. if not then don't forget to close the discussion and rate it.
wishing you good health.

Thank you very much for your quick reply!

What is fusidic acid ointment? Can I find it at my local pharmacy?

Also, what is cetirizine?

I will probably buy some Cetaphil and wait for the issue to resolve itself. If it's not gone by next week, I will keep my appointment with my doctor.

Detailed Answer:
hello

yes both medicines are OTC and you can get them easily from local pharmacy. cetirizine is antihistamine medicine. it prevents any allergic reaction.
fusidic acid ointment is topical antibiotic cream. it neutralizes bacteria over the affected skin area.

thank you
