Suggest Treatment For Pimples On The Left Lower Leg Area

default
Posted on Mon, 20 Jul 2015
Question: Lately I have noticed on my left lower leg area several pimple-like eruptions that when I rub them are slightly itchy but ooze clear liquid on rupture. I think it might be serum or lymphatic fluid. It may be related to diuretic meds.

Brief Answer:
Could be anything; right now we cannot really be sure of the cause

Detailed Answer:
Hello ma'am and welcome.

Thank you for writing to us.

I have gone through your query with diligence and would like you to know that I am here to help. You are on several medications ma'am, and unfortunately many of those medications can have the exact same presentation described by you in the form of side effects.

Some of them can even interact mildly resulting in the presentation described by you. Have you started off on any new medications lately? If so, which one is it?

I would also like to pay some amount of emphasis on your diabetes if you do not mind. Have you checked your blood glucose levels lately? Is your HbA1c within the normal range? If not, then diabetes also can cause a similar presentation, so please do check on your HbA1c levels.

Also, as the eruptions are limited to your lower limb, I would like to ask if you have been exposed to substances like poison ivy, or oak trees (as you have mentioned an allergy), or any such wilderness?

Please feel free to write back to me for any further clarifications, I am always here to help.

Best wishes.

I stated in my history that I was well under control of both sugar and HgbA1C....which has been tested and usually runs between 6.0 and 6.7. Since I am an retired Medical Lab person, I am well educated in health issues so I am very much aware of the difference between poison ivy and plasma or serum leakage. My problem appears to occur more in the summer months when I tend to drink more water. That is why I worry about kidney involvement.

Please do not treat me as anything less than a Medical Professional. Perhaps I could get better answers from an Internist.

Brief Answer:
Please do consider a blood investigation

Detailed Answer:
Hello once again.

I am glad I am dealing with someone who is well acquainted with medicine. Diuretics can result in oedema due to fluid retention, and swelling but very rarely causes eruptions like described by you but we can still go ahead with a blood investigation to check on the renal profile (RFT).

I do not disagree with the possibility of this being related to the kidneys or even diuretics, but we need to confirm/rule this out with the help of a blood investigations. If this presentation is seasonal, it could have to do with so many other things:

Example:

+May be summer also brings various other substances like pollen which can cause an allergic reaction resulting in the presentation
+May be as you mentioned, the dry skin on your legs has led to the skin breaking and causing serum leakage as well; use a good moisturising cream for this
and various other causes.

A blood investigation can help confirm/rule out allergic reactions, kidney involvement, etc; please do consider getting this done as all our assumptions are like a shot in the dark. Please do not hesitate to write back to me for any further clarifications, I am always here to help.

Best wishes.
