Detailed Answer:
Hi & Welcome.
I can understand your concern for your baby.
This infection is more common in children & they can spread it to others directly through their hands, or through contaminated clothing, bedding, food, or other articles. The eggs of the worms can live on household surfaces for up to 2 weeks.
Albendazole is the effective drug to eradicate the pin worm infection.
If his body weight is less than 20 kg: 200 mg orally other wise 400 mg can be given as a single dose and repeated in 2 weeks to kill any newly ingested eggs.
Since the eggs can be easily spread, everyone in the household must be treated with the medication. Reinfection is still common because live eggs continue to be excreted in feces for up to a week after the treatment.
To prevent infection or reinfection with pinworms, following measures to be undertaken:
All the family members should wash their hands frequently, especially after going to the toilet, after scratching, and before eating, and keep the fingernails short to reduce the chance of picking up pinworm eggs and take regular bath.
Nail biting should be avoided.
Avoid scratching the anal area and the diapers should be changed frequently.
I hope if you take all these precautions pinworm infestation will be treated successfully.
