Suggest Treatment For Pinworm Infection
Question: I just found out today that I have pin worms. I have most likely had them for 2 or 3 months with out noticing. Do you suggest that I get prescribed a medicine from my doctor since I have had them for so long. Or do you suggest I try an over the counter medicine. I also read that eating raw garlic works to. I just ate 3 cloves of raw garlic.

I recommend that you get treated for it by your doctor. Please do not take over the counter medications and taking raw garlic might not work inspite of the offensive taste.
It is important that you get investigated as well. A stool routine needs to be sent to confirm the diagnosis and a blood hemogram done to rule out anemia, the pin worms would have reduced your hemoglobin levels and it will require treatment with oral iron supplements
I treat pin worms with oral mebendazole 200 mg twice daily for 5 days.

is it true pin worms are most active at night and that's when they breed? I have been checking my but all night and 8 can't seem to find any worms

It is true that pin worms are more active during the night than the day and you might not find the worm in your stool on a daily basis as it will get attached to the intestinal mucosa. On stool routine microscopy they will find the eggs of the pin worm thus substatiating the diagnosis
