Suggest Treatment For Piriformis Syndrome
Question: I am convinced my wife has piriformis syndrome. Her pain is located deep in the right butt cheek and on occasion radiates down her leg some . We have been to 4 different specialist including orthopedic, chiropractic, nuerology, and pain management. The latest treatment suggested is to "TRY" hip replacement to see if some of the very slight bone damage at the top of the hip may be causing the piriformis pain. The hip replacement surgeon tested this theory with a cordizone shot and it did nothing to relieve the pain. Now I am looking for a doctor who has experience in treating piriformis syndrome with success. Should I try Loma XXXXXXX or Mayo clinic ???? She has been struggling with this for over a year.
Brief Answer:
Oral muscle relaxants can help.
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
Piriformis syndrome cannot be relieved with hip replacement. It is better to try oral muscle relaxants, hot compress and physical therapy. Taking medicines like pregabalin and gabapentin may also help.
You can try Mayo clinic and continue with regular stretching exercises under the guidance of a physiotherapist.
I hope this answers your query.
