Pardon the typo . The disease in question is PMR, Polymyalgia rheumatica.
Brief Answer:
PSL has shown to have a good effect in preventing peripheral neuropathy
Detailed Answer:
Hello once again sir.
Now that makes sense :)
Prednisolone (PSL) has shown to have the best effect in controlling and/or preventing the progression of diabetic peripheral neuropathy, which is a major issue in patients with PMR and T2DM.
Although there have been other corticosteroids used as well like cortisone which have also helped, in my opinion PSL does have the best effects. Why exactly are you looking for a substitute sir? If you do not mind me asking? So I can better understand and provide you with the help you need.
Best wishes.

Thank you Dr. Kahn for your prompt response to my query. I was curious if there was medication to treat my condition besides steroids. I am a Type II diabetic and have been diagnosed with PMR. I have an appointment with my primary physician to discuss my treatment and wanted to have information that would help me argue against the use of steroids.
Brief Answer:
Sure sir, let me try to help
Detailed Answer:
Hello once again sir and thank you for that information.
Steroids are the mainstay approach for treating PMR as they help in different ways:
+Anti-inflammatory
+As you have diabetes they help in preventing diabetes-associated peripheral neuropathy
and a few others.
But if at all you are not comfortable with steroids or are on the latter part of the benefit vs risk category, then the other options (in my opinion a little less beneficial than steroids) are:
+Disease-modifying anti-rheumatic drugs (DMARDs)
+Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs)
+Bisphosphonates to be added in case the steroids have caused any bone abnormalities (e.g. osteoporosis)
I hope you understand how steroids can help control a few complications with diabetes as well as PMR, but in their absence more group of medications may have to be used with less effect in preventing complications sir.
I hope you find my response helpful. Please do not hesitate to write back to me anytime in the future, I am always here to help.
Best wishes.
