default
Posted on Sat, 26 Jul 2014
Question: I am away on a business trip in a small town with no good doctor around, and have been suffering from severe post nasal drip cough. The cough is dry, chesty, soar and gets uncontrollable when I am lying down. It gets better when I start walking around. I have allergic sinusitis and have one allegra 120 m, and fluticasone nasal spray. I have tried salt water gargles, steam, etc. but nothing helps. Need SOS help!!

Brief Answer:
Oral steroids...

Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Thanks for your query.
It is good that you know you are a known case of allergic sinusitis. The present medicines are not working for you for a few reasons:
* Change of whether, atmosphere and surroundings wherein the load of antigens causing allergy must have been more.
*There may be an added infection , when the routine medicines may not work.

I would advise you to take Deflazacort, nasal decongestant drops to open up the nose and reduce the congestion and reduce the nasal reactionary discharge.
May be an antibiotic which you know suits you the most; you may have to meet a local Doctor to get a prescription.

Take plain water steam water inhalations.
All tease will reduce the post-nasal drip and the attendant problems which you have mentioned.
Once the post-nasal drip reduces, the cough will get under control.
You can also take a cough syrup to suppress the coughing at night.
