Suggest Treatment For Post Nasal Drip And Dry Cough

default
Posted on Thu, 2 Mar 2017
Question: Hi I have been dealing with major post nasal drip very thick and yellow that I couldn't clear from my throats for close to a month or more. I also had a sore throats and dry cough. I also have noticed that my right tonsil is not swollen or anything but has a yellow discoloration on about the bottom half of it. I went to the doctor and he prescribed augmenton for 10 days. It seemed to help the drainage but not completely. I went back and was prescribed a second course. I am starting to feel better the drainage has lessened quite a bit but I still have a slight occasional dry cough and the discoloration on the tonsil.

What are your thoughts on everything and anything else I need to do

Brief Answer:
Chronic sinusitis with tonsillitis

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome to HealthcareMagic and thanks for putting up the query,

Post nasal drops is just because of sinusitis..the chronic drip can lead to throat infection as well which can be in your case too..cough is also due to the post nasal drip because whenever secretions fall back they irritates the throat and causes cough..

For sinusitis you are already taking antibiotics..they will definitely treat infection but also use a nasal spray like Fluticasone nasal spray twice daily..this will decongest the nasal mucosa and will give better and faster relief..You need a prescription for the medicines..antibiotics are enough for 2 weeks

Usually in tonsillitis there is tonsilar inflammation and may be enlargement also..as u r saying there is discoloration only..my advise to u is please send me a picture of your throat and get a throat swab for culture sensitivity done..

For now use Hexidine gargles and tablet Vitamin C once daily

Any further questions are always welcome
Thanks and regards

Chronic sinusitis with tonsillitis

Detailed Answer:
Hi again,
I've reviewed the picture,

The little white spots are tonsilar debris in the crypts..a sign of chronic tonsillitis.

The yellow swelling in right tonsil is either a cyst or calculus which needs to be managed only if symptomatic otherwise it can be left as such..if symptomatic then tonsillectomy is advised..

The white debris will clear itself with time, it may take few more days as tonsils are still inflamed.. do gargles regularly..the Antibiotics you are taking for sinusitis will cure tonsilar infection too..

Any more questions are always welcome
Thanks and regards
Take care

I am sorry to bother you again, but one other quick question. I think the post Basel drip is a good bit better but it still feels like some is stuck between my nose and mouth. I try to swallow or cough it up and clear my throats but it just seems to stay there. I started Flonase spray yesterday and took a decongestant today.

Thoughts

Thanks

Chronic sinusitis with tonsillar infection

Detailed Answer:
hi
Thanks for contacting again..
the sticky sensation at the back of throat is due to mucoid nasal secretions..the secretions are not falling back into the throat spontaneously as they are decreasing and that needs repeated hacking.. continue the medicines and also do gargles..this symptoms will also disappear in few days..

feel free to ask any questions..get well soon
Thanks and regards
