Question: Slipped on an icy driveway XXXXXXX 19 and bumped the back of my head. Immediately felt pressure in both ears. Started to subside, but last week returned. Went to family Dr. last Thurs. Sent me for a CT, results were negative. Will this go away by itself?

Brief Answer:
seems tobe eustahchian tube dysfunction.

Detailed Answer:

Hi,

I have gone through your question and understand your concerns that you are having pressure in ears. I would like to ask you few more details.

Is there any ear discharge ?

Kindly get back to me with the details.

Based on our clinical details, it occurs to be due to Eustachian tube dysfunction or ear drum injury secondary to trauma (fall)

Eustachian tube (tube connecting the middle ear ear and nose)dysfunction could be due to trauma, where one can have ear pressure or ear blockage.

I suggest you to consult ent surgeon, get detailed ent examination, otoscopy status of ear drum), audiometry (Eustachian tube dysfunction, any loss of hearing).

Meantime, do valsalva exercise (watch youtube video), avoid freezer products (curd/ice cream), chew chewing gum, avoid water per ear during bath (plug them with dry cotton).

Hope this answers your question, if you have additional questions or follow up questions then please do not hesitate in writing to us. I will be happy to answer your questions.

Wishing you good health.

No discharge from the ears. Just varying amounts of pressure.

Will this condition prevent me from flying? If I fly will I be in pain?

Brief Answer:
do not fly,till you evaluate.

Detailed Answer:
Hello again,

Thanks for considering my answer and for your follow up.

Eustachian tube which connects middle ear and nose, drains fluid from middle ear, ventilates air cells (helps in hearing). A dysfunction secondary to obstruction (deviated septum) or trauma can lead to stiff or retracted ear drum (tympanic membrane). And flying under this condition can cause pain or tympanic membrane rupture due to high altitude pressure changes in middle ear.

I wouldn't allow you to fly if I were your treating doctor until I get this sorted. Therefore it is worthwhile to see your primary doctor to evaluate before you fly. Until then please follow my instructions.

Hope, I have answered your query.

Take care.
