Suggest Treatment For Pressure In Eye And Frozen Pupil After Cataract Operation

Question: After having surgery to remove a cataract i was put on Pred Forte for two months. I was abruptly taken off of it due to pressure in my eye. In one week i had serious
inflammation, pain and tearing.. I was put back on steroid and than got frozen pupil and pressure of 15 in my eye. I am nervous about what can be done. With no dilation the Dr, is not able to look behind my eye.

I reviewed your history.

It seems from the history that you are having inflammation following cataract surgery with secondary raise of intraocular pressure.

Since the intraocular pressure is increased as a side effect to pred forte eye drops you require treatment by the use of oral steroid drugs and antiglaucoma drugs.

Since the pupil is not dilating with Neofrin eye drops I would like to use atropine eye ointment.

Since all these medications require prescription and needs examination and assessment by your surgeon I advice you to consult your doctor and discuss with him regarding all these options.

As they gradually reduce the Pred Forte will the pressure decrease?
How serious is this problem?
What is the usual outcome?
What is the seriousness of my experiencing darkness in my eye as the doctor said I should use the Neofrin when I experience darkness?
The doctor also ordered refactoring glasses?
Can this lead to possible blindness?

Thank you for the follow up.

The condition is relatively serious but can be treated with steroids.

The gradual tapering of steroid drugs will control the inflammation and prevent raise of intraocular pressure.

With treatment this can be treated and good vision can be restored.
Neofrin will help in treating inflammation and thus helps to treat this condition.

Glasses are required after controlling inflammation.
