Suggest Treatment For Problems With Emptying The Bladder

default
Posted on Thu, 16 Apr 2015
Question: Hello Dr. My problem has been going on for about a month. It feels like I have to urinate ALL THE TIME, even right after I have gone. Some nights I can't sleep on my stomach because it's so uncomfortable. The discomfort is where my bladder and uterus are located. I bought AZO and it has had absolutely no effect. There is no burning when I go to the bathroom. There is often the sensation that I can't completely empty my bladder. For several months I was drinking a gallon to a gallon and a half of water a day (my skin looked AMAZING) but I have cut that back considerably, out of laziness I guess. I started drinking Monster energy drinks recently, I quite drink diet coke AND smoking so I thought they might give me a little boost. I chew quite a lot of nicotine gum and am under a lot of pressure, I have a special needs child that makes most days a challenge. I am taking several medications a day: Vyvanse 60mg once a day, Clonazepam 5 mg once day, Bupropion HCL SR 150 mg twice a day, Eszopiclone 3mg at bedtime and Trazodone 50 mg at bedtime but I only take half of that one.
I am 43 and I don't drink alcohol. I'm 5'7 and weigh 105 (my husband told me I need to put on some weight today). Because of all the stress I don't eat very much at all.
What do you think this issue could be?
Thank you so much for your time.

Hi, thanks for getting back to me

No surgeries or gyma problems. No c section. My labor was long (15 hours) but it was 24 years ago. I had him when I was 19.

My BP has always been fine, to my knowlw I'm not a diabetic.

I have difficulty urinating, as I said it feels like so have to go but nothing or very little happens.
I feel almost constant pressure where my uterus and bladder is located. It does not burn when I go though.

I haven't been to a Dr in about 4 years, I've not even had a cold in almost a decade. This has been happening for the last month and it's getting worse. Monster energy drinks seem to make it worse.

Thanks for your help.

Brief Answer:
It sounds like uterine prolapse mild stage.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thanks for writing back,

I have read your response and will try to come up with the most helpful answer I can.

1) UTI:

UTI can present with such symptoms but it causes fever,,,pelvic pains and burning urination usually you don;t have any so they are least suspected.

2) Uterine prolapse:

In my opinion , though less common but in your case prime suspect will be, uterine prolapse. I would encourage you to read about it yourself.

Your symptoms are very suggestive of what we call as uterine prolapse. It doesn't seem to be on a late stage , still looks to be in early stage you you might not be feeling any thing outside your body but inside pressure and urinary symptoms are there.

Uterine prolapse occurs when pelvic floor muscles and ligaments stretch and weaken, providing inadequate support for the uterus. The uterus then slips down into or protrudes out of the vagina.

Uterine prolapse can happen to women of any age, but it often affects postmenopausal women who've had one or more vaginal deliveries. Weakening of the pelvic muscles that leads to uterine prolapse can be caused by:

,,Damage to supportive tissues during pregnancy and childbirth

,,Effects of gravity

,,Loss of estrogen

,,Repeated straining over the years

If you have mild uterine prolapse, treatment usually isn't needed. But if uterine prolapse makes you uncomfortable or disrupts your normal life, you might benefit from treatment.

Uterine prolapse varies in severity. You may have mild uterine prolapse and experience no signs or symptoms. If you have moderate to severe uterine prolapse, you may experience:

*Sensation of heaviness or pulling in your pelvis

*Tissue protruding from your vagina

*Urinary problems, such as urine leakage or urine retention

*Trouble having a bowel movement

*Low back pain

*Feeling as if you're sitting on a small ball or as if something is falling out of your vagina

*Sexual concerns, such as a sensation of looseness in the tone of your vaginal tissue

*Symptoms that are less bothersome in the morning and worsen as the day goes on. (Courtasy: mayoclinic.org)

SUGGESTIONS:

1) You Need to set up an appointment with you Gynae obs most preferably.

2) They might want to run some examination maneuvers and test to ascertain the cause and severity.

3) Treatment ranges from pelvic floor exercises to minimally invasive sirgeries to invasive surgeries depending upon severity.

I just want to assure you that this issue can be controlled easily you shouldn't worry much or panic but make sure you follow it.

I Hope this answers your question, if your have more queries feel free to ask, otherwise close the discussion and rate it. Wish you the best of health.

Regards,

Dr.Muhammad Ahmad.
