Suggest Treatment For Prostate Cancer
Question: My dad had prostate cancer 17 years ago. He went through radiation therapy. He has gone through some health issues related to that recently and had a procedure done last summer to connect a catheter into his stomach due to having severe urinary problems. He just found out his PSA is 28 and that he has cancer "on" his hip. The oncologist doesn't think it's "in" the bone and is very optimistic. He has started chemotherapy this past week and will go once a month. He has also had hormone shots to slow progression. Is it common to have cancer on a bone and not in it. My dad is 78 and was otherwise healthy. Now he is down to 119 lbs and has trouble eating.
Brief Answer:
Bone scan
Detailed Answer:
Hi
It is very common for prostate cancer to spread to bones.
I would advise your dad to do a Bone scan test.
Since his PSA is high after 3 cycles of chemotherapy he needs to reasess his condition by doing a PET scan and a repeat PSA test.
