Suggest Treatment For Radiating Pain From Left Ear
Question: I've an On-Off radiating pain from my left ear. Pain is dull all the time. The pain is also present sometimes in the area between the ear and forehead; upper and lower jaws. I'm experiencing this problem from past 10 (ten) days. My left ear feels blocked, but it actually is not. I don't have any symptoms of cold. I'm having normal sleep. I tried steaming, and it gave me relief only for few hours. Please tell me what to do. Thank you!

Hi,
I had gone through your question and understand your concerns. The symptoms reported seem concerning and I will recommend that you see a doctor and get evaluated.
With such presentation, I would perform ENT examination to rule out ear related problem like impacted cerumen (wax) or acute otits media (ear drum infection). If necessary otoscopy procedure to see ear canal and ear drum in depth will be necessary. You might need a course of antibiotic along with wax solvents following this evaluation. I will recommend you see a nearby ENT surgeon. He/she will know about the procedures described above.
In the meanwhile, you can continue steam inhalation. You can also start pain medications such as ibubrufen to prevent pain. I also advise you to avoid water dripping into the ear ear during bath by plugging it with cotton.

In my opinion, source of infection could be from sinuses. For repeated infections you need to evaluate further with ct scan of para nasal sinuses to know any anatomical blockage (deviated septum, blocked osteomeatal complex) or pathological extent (polyp).
It may become dangerous, if it involves other structures like eyes, brain or ear (permanent perforation in ear drum leading to deafness).
Kindly go ahead for ct scan of para nasal sinuses.

Hello Dr. Siddiqh! I visited an ENT specialist and got examined. He too asked me get a CT scan(PNS) done. He suspected a polyp in left maxillary sinus. He has put me on Cetix-200, Xaria Plus and Oxymet Nasal drops for a week.
So, how severe can this polyp be? Can it be treated with medication? Kindly elaborate. Thank you!
