Suggest Treatment For Radiating Pain In The Lower Left Side Of The Torso

default
Posted on Mon, 12 Dec 2016
Question: My lower left side hurts significantly. I've tried Tylenol. Ibuprofen. Heat. Muscle relaxer. And norco. The Heat helps a little as does laying down. Sitting or standing make it worse. Last night I even started getting nauseous.
Nothing takes the pain away which is a burning radiating pain but no throbbing

Brief Answer:
To rule out kidney stone and ovarian cysts

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thank you for your query.
I'm Dr. Shuba Hariprasad and will be answering your query today.

Based on your symptoms, I would like to rule out Stone in the left kidney or ovarian cysts.

Would you clarify a few things for me, please?
# how long have you had these symptoms?
# do you have any fever, loose stools, vaginal bleeding or discharge?vomiting?
# did they remove your ovaries as well, during the hysterectomy? When was the surgery done?
# why did you have the hysterectomy? Did you have the fistula after the hysterectomy? Any further/other surgeries?
# do you have any other medical issues or take any medications?
# does it hurt when you urinate? What colour is your urine?
# how are your stools?
# does it hurt to touch the area? Did you lift anything heavy or strain yourself recently?

I recommend :
-a physician consult right away
-an ultrasound abdomen & pelvis (a CT abdomen may be required)
-blood tests (complete blood count, liver and kidney function tests, erythrocyte sedimentation rate, blood glucose panel)
-urine analysis
-try sniffing on a lemon or orange slice to abet the nausea.
-keep hot water packs and take rest as much as possible.

Based on these a diagnosis will be made and a treatment plan can be initiated

Please see your doctor as soon as possible. If pain worsens or you develop any vomiting, fever, abnormal bleeding, visit the ER right away.

Hope this helps.
Please let me know if there is anything else I can help you with.
Wish you good health.

Regards,
Dr. Shuba Hariprasad

Brief Answer:
To check for abscess inside the abdomen as well.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thank you for the follow up and clarifications.

There is, additionally, a possibility of abscess formation due to the persistent fistula.

Multiple surgeries can result in adhesions over the years that can cause pain as well. However, the onset of your symptoms indicate an ongoing acute problem.

Please consider my recommendations and see your doctor for an ultrasound or CT scan (depends on the clinical findings) at the earliest.

Hope I've helped. Please let me know if there is anything else I can help you with.
Wish you good health

Regards,
Dr. Shuba Hariprasad
