Suggest Treatment For Rashes And Itchy Red Bumps On Armpits And Inner Thighs

default
Posted on Mon, 27 Apr 2015
Question: I suddenly got a rash on my arm pits and inner thighs. Red bumps and itchy. Any ideas? I'm currently in between rounds of chemo so I know my immune system is lowered. I haven't developed a rash before like this. Today wasn't a hot day either.

Brief Answer:
it could be dermatitis . Visit your chemo doctor and dermatologist.

Detailed Answer:
Dear XXXX, welcome to HCM and thanks for choosing us.

Itchy reddish rashes are common problem in armpits and groins. You suspicion is also true because chemotherapy reduces immunity and tendency to get such rashes increases in chemo patients. It is most probably contact dermatitis as you have developed it very fast and at places where skin is rubbing to each other. You can get dermatitis even if it is not a hot day as for you threshold has come down due to chemotherapy. For contact dermatitis you will require steroids ointments. Another possibility could be bacterial dermatitis as rubbing of skin plucks hairs and due to reduced immunity these hair roots get infected. Bacterial dermatitis will require antibiotics and steroid ointment. Another less likely possibility is fungal infection but generally it takes time to reach to such stage . Since immunity is compromised in your case this possibility also need to be thought of before starting treatment. You need to visit your chemotherapy doctor and dermatologist for definitive diagnosis and treatment.

I hope my reply will benefit you. Please write to hcm or me for follow up queries. I wish you good health. Take care of hygiene.
