default
Posted on Mon, 12 Jun 2017
Question: Our 28 year old son has developed an all over the body rash and looking here, I thought contact dermatitis. He is a firefighter and was clearing brush with poison oak. There is some poison oak symptoms (rash), too. What concerns me most is areas of swelling in his arms and feet. Thought maybe he could take some Benadryl or an antihistamine (sp?) before seeing a health care professional tomorrow.

Brief Answer:
Yes let him take Benadryl. Also, upload an image for review!

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thanks so much for this query.

The location of this rash and his prior activities raise real suspicion of a possible poison ivy. I will like to complete this assessment with an image. For this, kindly take a photo image and upload for review.

At this time, let him feel free to start a course of Benadryl. It is a safe drug and we rather be cautious than sorry. I will recommend 50mg single dose at this time and will review the images and weigh in further.

I hope to hear back from you. Wish your son well.
