Suggest Treatment For Recurrent Folliculitis

default
Posted on Mon, 6 Mar 2017
Question: I was given Bactin for folicculitis, 10 days it would go away then after 2weeks it would come back. Three times! Should it be a stronger dose or a longer dose. I have been given doxycycline which did not cure it. I have been on clindamycin, it did not help. I have been on clindamycin DS which made it go away but also came back. Now waiting for biopsy to come back. So far waiting two and a half weeks with no results yet. Also using Gentamicin Sulfate ointment USP, O.1%. along with a benzoid cleanser. Still breaking out with the pusculers, all across my chest, back of my neck and in my scalp. Now what?

Brief Answer:
Get pus culture, go for rifampicin along with ciprofloxacin

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for being at HealthcareMagic,

I have gone through your complaints and understand your concern.

Bactin contains antibacterial Ciprofloxacin.
I would recommend you to go for pus culture of the pustules so that we can know the exact organism causing the problem and also antibiotics effective against it.

Meanwhile it has been seen in cases of recurrent folliculitis Rifampicin 600 mg along with Ciprofloxacin 500 mg has been found effective.
It is a prescription drug and you need to see the doctor in person to get it.

Dr Asmeet
