Posted on Fri, 13 Mar 2015
Question: Sir I have been diagnosed with genetial herpes three years back. I had gone under suppressive therapy of zovirax 400 mg twice a day for six months at that time. I have had some out breaks after that which was treated by zovirax 400 mg twice or thrice a day till the eruptions healed. In march Last year I got warts on my genetial for which I was prescribed podowart by my doctor. I had a severe out break of herpes in last qtr of 14. And am having continuous out breaks since then almost every 15 to 20 days. I have started taking homeopathic medicine from a bhms dr in my town in sep 14. The severity of herpes has reduced but my warts have are not cured and the outbreaks have also not reduced. At present I am taking baksons wart aid two tabs daily twice, baksons formula D two tabs twice daily, XXXXXXX mur6x and XXXXXXX sul6x six tabs thrice daily and (mystic) herpes drop M61 thrice daily since sep 14. I am fed up of taking so many medicine. Please help

Brief Answer:
Restart suppressive antiviral; Freezing along with Podophylotoxin for warts

Detailed Answer:
Hello. Thank you for writing to us at healthcaremagic

I have gone through your query and I have understood it.

You have mentioned 2 concerns over here: Recurrent genital herpes and Genital warts.

Episodes of Genital herpes, specially if frequent (> 9 episodes per year) and bothersome is a consideration for continuous oral suppressive treatment with antivirals, either acyclovir or valacyclovir.

The recommended duration for suppressive treatment with Oral antivirals is usually 6 months to 1 year.

The frequency of recurrences usually decrease with time when suppressive treatment can be withdrawn but since you still experience frequent and bothersome recurrences even after 6 months of continuous suppressive treatment therefore, I suggest you to restart with suppressive treatment and continue it for another 6 months.

Genital Warts can reform after seemingly complete cure probably because the viral infection is still there and thus can form new warts, therefore, they may require multiple treatment sessions.

If podophylotoxin resin/ podowart was ineffective earlier, other methods may be tried or alternated with podophylotoxin application e.g liquid nitrogen freezing, radiofrequency ablation Or CO 2 Laser ablation.

Multiple sessions may be required before they finally stop recurring.

I suggest you to visit a dermatologist or venereologist in your vicinity for the needful

Regards
