Suggest Treatment For Recurrent Tinnitus

default
Posted on Fri, 19 Dec 2014
Question: For two weeks now I have had an annoying case of tinnitus. It used to come and go, but currently it is pretty constant. I do not recall anything that would contribute to this symptom. It is almost too annoying and it is always on my mind. The sound is a tiny ring-hiss sound such as the sound of a tube tv turning on. I did post a matter prior about something. Here is the link to the closed question in case this may be related.

Brief Answer:
detailed ent examination, audiometry.

Detailed Answer:

Hi,

I had gone through your question and understand your concerns. The symptoms reported seem concerning and I will recommend that you see a doctor and get evaluated.

With such presentation, I would perform ENT examination to rule out ear related-wax, foreign body, preforation or polyp. Audiometry- fluid behind intact ear drum (retracted ear drum ), nerve deafness. BP monitoring (high BP can cause tinnitus), blood tests-(nutritional deficiencies- anemia or variation in electrolytes ). If necessary ultrasound neck (any lesion causing compressing of major vessels), I will recommend you see a nearby ENT surgeon. He/she will know about the procedures described above.

Hope this answers your question, if you have additional questions or follow up questions then please do not hesitate in writing to us. I will be happy to answer your questions.

Wishing you good health.

Brief Answer:
needs evaluation by history, examination and investigations.

Detailed Answer:

Hello,

Thanks for considering my answer and for your follow up.

We need to rule out the cause of tinnitus.
As such, tinnitus is divided into two types

1. subjective- most common, (only patient can listen- they intermittent or continuous) Acoustic trauma, Ageing (presbycusis), Ototoxic drugs, Meniere disease.

2. objective- (both patient and examiner can listen- always continuous) tinnitus is an audible pulsating sound synchronous with the pulse, seen in arterio-venous malformations, turbulent flow through carotid or jugular veins.

For the exact cause, you need to evaluate. kindly go ahead.

Hope, I have answered your query.

Take care.
