Brief Answer:
amoxicillin, augmentin or azithromycin most commonly used

Detailed Answer:
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

Most upper respiratory tract infections except for ear infections, are viral not bacterial and do not need antibiotics.

If it is suspected that a bacterial infection is involved then the most commonly used antibiotics are amoxicillin, augmentin (this is amoxicillin plus another med to help the amoxicillin work better), azithromycin.

There are others as well that can be given.

The lymph nodes/glands in the neck would enlarge as part of the body's inflammatory response. This inflammatory response would occur with infection (viral, fungal, bacterial), allergies, significant trauma or more serious illness.

If you are having symptoms of an ear infection or another bacterial infection then your doctor may choose one of these for you.

I hope this helps, feel free to ask any other questions
