Following advice....
Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX
I have gone through your medical history carefully and understood your concerns.
1. It is common for females to have recurrent urinary tract infection (UTI), especially at your age. It is also true that E.coli is the most common causative agent and most difficult to get eradicated.
2. I am happy that the symptoms are subsiding after taking antibiotics. This means that the causative agent is not developing resistance to treatment.
3. Drinking lots of fluids will help keep the urinary pathways cleared from infection.
I always encourage my patients to drink plenty of fluids together with antiseptic supplements (e.g. cranberry or other urine pH alkalinizers).
It is also important to:
- go to toilet each time you feel the need to empty your bladder, do not delay
- keep a good genital hygiene
- clean/wipe from front to back after passing urine or a bowel movement
- avoid bathing; it is better having a shower to avoid contamination and infection relapse
- avoid scented feminine spray or soaps on genital area
- if sexually active, do empty your bladder and clean your genitalia immediately after intercourse
4. It is also important to get further consultation with urologist to evaluate aging morphological changes of the urinary pathways.
5. Long-term use of low-dose antibiotics is also recommended for at least 6 months to keep clean of bacteria.
Discuss it further with your doctor and hope it will work for you as it worked for my patients with the same problems and age as you.
All the best!
