Question: Every time I get a cut, instead of it healing it increases in size and turns into a hole. A thick "scab", for lack of a better term, forms. The wound is seeping a black discharge. I presently have 3 areas of infection. I am 63 years old. Thank you for your help. XXXXXXX

Brief Answer:
Further tests need to be done

Detailed Answer:
Hello and thank you for asking HealthcareMagic.

I am Dr.Endri Katro and I will be answering your questions.

We need to understand that there are some factors that might influence the healing process of a wound. We will go step by step at each of them and we will try to find a reason together.

-Health Status. It depends on the age, but mostly from some chronic disease such as circulatory conditions, anemias or autoimmune diseases, diabetes, kidney problems etc. Do you have high blood pressure. If so, what are the levels of your blood pressure?
Do you have any other type of chronic disease. Diabetes? Kidney conditions?

-Underweight individuals are more affected in the healing process.
-Nutritional Status.Wounds require calories, fats, vitamins and proteins, minerals etc. So a reduced amount of these elements might interfere with the healing process.

If I're your caring doctor I would check your blood levels. Do some blood test to see the sugar levels, kidney function tests and if all came back negative than I would do farther tests to see if there is any kind of problem with your arteries or venous system, or even check for autoimmune disease.

Please consult your physician for the tests that I mentioned (blood pressure, blood sugar, kidney function tests etc)..

Depending on the results of these tests, you might need to consult a relevant specialist i.e. cardiologist, endocrinologist, nephrologist accordingly.

If you have any other question, don't hesitate to contact me.

Wish you good health.
