Suggest Treatment For Recurring Hives In A Toddler
Question: My 15 month old has had hives for the last month. Usually in different spots every day. They come and go in different areas. I have not added anything new to his diet although he is very picky and only eats a handful of things. He had low fevers about a month ago and then the hives started. He is still sick with congestion but no fevers.
Brief Answer:
Looks like recurrent urticaria
Detailed Answer:
Hi.... by what you say this looks like recurrent urticaria which means that, it is a simple skin allergy which keeps repeating itself.
There could be many reasons for such skin allergy to repeat, starting from allergic exposure to fever, especially viral illness.
Skin conditions are best diagnosed and managed after seeing them directly. Can you please upload an image of the hives which you are quoating so that I can guide you better.

I am not sure how to upload a photo to you on this site. Is there an email I can send it to?
Brief Answer:
Looks like insect bite allergy or urticaria
Detailed Answer:
Hi... I have seen both the images just now. This looks like an insect bite allergy a simple urticaria.
Urticaria or any sort of allergy can occur recurrently. Unless there is angioedema involving lip swelling or noisy breathing or breathing difficulty or stridor, you need not worry. Children usually grow out of this allergies as the age progresses.
You can use Hydroxyzine at 1-2mg/kg/dose every 6th to 8th hourly for 7-10 days. Most important thing to be remembered is that it has a propensity to recur (called as second crop) within 10-14 days.
If this happens, you can start using the same medicine but I suggest you get the kid evaluated with your paediatrician.
Hope my answer was helpful for you. I am happy to help any time. Further clarifications and consultations on Health care magic are welcome. If you do not have any clarifications, you can close the discussion and rate the answer. Wish your kid good health.
