Suggest Treatment For Recurring Swollen Glands In Neck

default
Posted on Mon, 29 Jun 2015
Question: I have been experiencing swollen glands in my neck. It is usually on one side. The swelling usually lasts for a day or two and then subsides. This has been occurring for about 3 weeks. It has now happened 3 times. I have excessive gerd and recently had a root canal cap that came off and the tooth was decaying. Also it seems to occur after I have had a few cocktails. I have been reading that it could be an std and am very concerned. Does this sound like std or possibly complications due to stress, gerd, tooth decay, and alcohol use?

Brief Answer:
Clinical evaluation and investigations

Detailed Answer:
HI.
Thanks for your query and an elucidate history..
If the gland is just bellow the jaw bone and increase and decrease so frequently, it is most probably a submandibular salivary gland.
If it is at other places, no glands increase or decrease so fast. Yet they can be due to eosinophilic reaction in the glands.

In such a case I would advise you the following.::
- First of all get ultrasonography to ascertain which glands are these and then go for FNAC to decide the cause.
- If this is negative, you can undergo an excision biopsy for a confirmed diagnosis for proper further management.
- Consult an ENT for clinical evaluation, examination, investigations and further management.

I hope this answers your query please feel free to ask for further relevant queries if you need to or if you feel that there is a gap-of-communication.
