Posted on Sat, 25 Mar 2017
Question: I have several round red sores on my penis and they seem to be spreading. I have tried anti-biotic ointment and anti-fungal cream. They scab up and crack open if i dont keep ointment on them. I have been with the same partner for 23 years and she doesnt have any symptoms. I have attached a picture.

Brief Answer:
I think it is herpes simplex.

Detailed Answer:
Good day and thank you for being with healthcare magic!

I have seen the ulcers in your penis and they look like herpes simplex. I usually give my patients oral valacyclovir 1000mg 2x per day for 10 days.

Even if you have a single partner for the past 25 years the herpes virus remains dormant in the body and activates when the immune system weakens.

I hope I have answered your question satisfactorily.

After doing my own research, it seems as though I do not have herpes. My sores did not start out as a cluster of bumps that leak out puss and then scab. Mine are round flush sores that have the appearance of ringworm. I have a history of ringworm on my legs. Also, I dont have any other symptoms of herpes like fever, flu like symptoms, or swollen lymph nodes. It appears to be more like a skin fungus. They are sore to the touch and shed layers of dried skin. Somtimes the skin within them crack open.

Brief Answer:
You may be correct.

Detailed Answer:
You may be correct but fungal infection is associated with pruritus and should have been tested with your fungal cream that to you applied before.

Herpes doesn't always present with systemic symptoms of fever etc. You can have a blood test to test for herpes antibodies to be sure.

I apologize because i am not able to do a complete physical examination on you which is a pitfall for online forum. I recommend seeing a urologist so he can do the required physical examination and come up with a diagnosis.
