Most severe was a splitting headache, which made meunable to function , nothinghelped that lasted 2 days and became milder the 3rd and 4th days. By fri. the headache was gone but replaced by very uncomfortable burning, which also felt like I was being stabbed w / pins and needles . 2day is the4th day, I feelmuch improved but my face is still flushed and weltlike marks r still there . my body temp. was abt 100 F. at its highest despite theburning sensation . I did not consume, drink, or use a new detergent .

Brief Answer:
Cause of rashes with fever/headcahe

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX, thanks for asking from HCM.

I can understand your concern. Such type of symptoms are most probably due to fever with rashes. In adults like you, It can occur due to various types of infections like

: Toxic Shock Syndrome - It is caused by streptococcal bacteria. It is a serious kind of bacterial infection which starts as mild symptoms for few days. Later on patient develops fever high grade, rashes, headache, low blood pressure, vomiting, gradual organ failure, cough, sore throat, muscle ache.

If you are having any of above signs, better consult doctor. The diagnosis is confirmed by clinical examination, blood reports like staining/culture/blood counts.

: Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever - Tick bite can cause this unusual bacterial infection. Usually it starts as fever and rashes occur late. it can cause headache, vomiting, conjunctival redness, vomiting. The rashes usually involve limbs and trunk area, which is not in your case. So it is less likely.

: Insect bite - Any insect bite or secretions can cause rashes over involved area, fever due to allergy, headache.

It can be suspected if there is definite site of insect bite over face or neck area. You can also ask your doctor to confirm it.

: Meningococcemia - It happens due to meningococcal bacteria. It causes fever, rashes and brain infection i.e. meningitis. It can present with headache, vomitings, neck rigidity, disorientation.

Diagnosis can be made upon blood culture, CSF sampling.
It is less likely in your case as you are recovering and there was no vomiting.

: Allergy due to use of new soap/cosmetics/drug or medication - Sometimes new chemical use over face can cause severe allergic reactions like rashes/burning/sometimes pustules along with fever/headache. The symptoms will subside on discontinuing of the chemical.

It can suspected if there is use of new chemical/cosmetic. You can confirm it from Dermatologist.

: Viral fever like chicken pox - It can be suspected as the cause. As you had past history of use of ribavirin/Interferons, you might be having low immunity. All these factors can cause viral fever with rash in your age.

Usually they can in severe form in adults, but recovery is the rule. It can be suspected based on
- Clinical features
- Blood counts showing mild increase in leucocytes count
- Blood culture sterile
- Antibody test

You can consult doctor to rule out any of above conditions. Final treatment will depend upon confirmation of diagnosis.
Hope it will help you. Still in doubt, do let me know.
Thanks. Take care.
