Suggest Treatment For Redness And Swelling Of The Eyelids When Diagnosed With Dry Eye

Question: My eyelids stay swollen and red. I have been to 4 drs. They say I am not allergic to anything and I am being treated for dry eye with Restasis. One Dr. told me to use green tea bags on my eyes - didn't work!

Lower eye lid swelling may be structural.

My dear,
Thanks for sending your query to us.
We have to know if the swelling is on the upper or lower eyelid.It will be helpful if we could have a photograph.
Allergic swelling is not constant,and as a rule a constant swelling may be a structural problem,lime a baggy eyelid.Also if it is in one of both eyes and are there any other complaints like itching and discharge.

It is both upper & lower lids but mostly the lower & it is both eyes. There is itching and major drainage

Good of you to get back to me.

Anti allergy eye drops should be given and a trial of about a week or more is a must. Along with that anti allergy tablets once a day in the evening all also be helpful .

As you have a combination of swelling, irritation and discharge, this is enough ground to give a trial of anti allergy treatment.

Continue the treatment vigorously and this is what we call as therapeutic trial, relief after a while confirms the diagnosis.
