Suggest Treatment For Redness And Tenderness In The Scrotum

default
Posted on Mon, 19 Jun 2017
Question: My scrotum is turning to "leather" and red and tender. I don't know why or what to do. It's not any std. My wife and I are old! I bath with XXXXXXX dishwashing soap? I was a coal miner and it cleaned the coal dust.
I may have not rinsed enough; I don't know. It may be starting to get better? It's been 4 days. Came on slowly. Strange. Thanks, XXXXXXX

Brief Answer:
Possibly fungal or bacterial infection of scrotal skin

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thank you for trusting HealthcareMagic

The leathery appearance of scrotal skin along with redness and tenderness could be due to fungal or bacterial infection of the skin (dermatitis).

Confirmation of diagnosis requires a physical examination, microscopic examination of skin scraping to rule out fungal infection. Please also upload/attach a picture of the infected area here for my review so that I can guide you accordingly.

Treatment is with antifungal agents or antibiotics.
Please be advised to follow-up with a primary care provider for further evaluation and management.

Hope this answers your question
