Question: Hello, I have a question relating to my 6 mo th old daughters weight. She was born weighing 3.4kgs. At her 4 month check up she was 6.2kgs then at 6 months (now) she hasnt put on any weight since her 4 month check up still weighing 6.2kgs. She was in the 35th percentile for weight at 4 months but now she is sitting on the 10th percentile. Is there reason for concern here? She is still drinking the same amount of formula she always has 150mls every 4 hours but isnt ready for solids yet. She has also had alot of respiratory issues since birth with every cold heading straight for her lungs and causing bronchiolitis or pneumonia.

Brief Answer:
Respiratory issues are the main cause to non-gaining weight...

Detailed Answer:
Hi my dear,

I understand your concerns regarding your 6 months old daughter.

You are reporting that she is not gaining weight for the last 2 months. At the same time, she has faced alot of respiratory issues since birth; while taking the same amount of formula.

The respiratory issues she has faced are the reason for her not to gain weight. As she is having such problems since birth, if I was her caring doctor would advice to run further tests to understand why:
- complete blood count to rule out anemia
- measuring vit.D and calcium levels
- physical examination to rule out any congenital abnormality in her heart or lungs

If no such pathologies, then, should discuss with her pediatrician to change formula, a more specific formulation to increase her immunity and provide larger amounts of nutrients as per her age.

Multivitamins containing vit.D, Calcium should be also added.

Hope it was of help!

Thank you so much for such a detailed answer. Her GP is waiting results from a sweat test regarding cystic fibrosis but I didnt notice the weight issue until yesterday when I had her weighed. We will be looking into this further if the sweat test is normal.
