Brief Answer:
Symptomatic treatment for a Viral airway infection

Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXXXXX thanks for coming to HealthCareMagic. I see that your son is suffering from a cold for last few days. A few days not is a very long time for these symptoms to persist. So i cannot reccomend any antibiotics as the infection is most likely viral and will clear on it's own. So lets talk about how to deal with his symptoms. Lets talk about the removal of the phlegm.

The symptoms you mention are most likely due to mucus build up in the chest and sinuses. To clear this you can do the following.

1. Steam Inhalation: Boil a big pot of water and add a small amount of iodex to it. Drape your head with a towel and stand over the boiling water to breath in the steam and vapor. This will help loosen the mucus.

2. Drink plenty of warm fluids with astringents like ginger and lemon. Ginger tea should help to some extent.

3. Decongestants like Cheston Cold syrup, etc have medications which should decrease mucus production, beware though, they also may raise your BP slightly while you are taking them.

I hope this helps,

Vinay
