We can go for some more potent class of drugs for her!!!
Detailed Answer:
Thanks for the consultation at my virtual clinic!
I have carefully worked through your case, and can well realize your health worries. Being your physician, I will take care all of your medical concerns today and will put my best efforts to get you out of this situation.
FOR YOUR WIFE:-
If she has nor relief from restless leg syndrome by taking Levo/Carbidopa then I usually prefer to go for Pramipexole; and Clonazepam; and Fioricet with Codeine; and Gabapentin and it is a good option for your wife. She will feel better with that. She needs to grab a prescription script from her treating physician. Her physician may also need to go for some important tests for her as Serum Iron studies to see if she needs iron supplementation.
FOR YOUR CASE:-
Causes may be:-
Muscular spasm.
Degenerative bone disease involving the spinal vertebrae.
Compression on the spinal nerves supplying the legs area, due to disease involving intervertebral disc disease (the cushion between the adjacent vertebrae in spine).
There may also be an inflammatory disease of the left hip joint. Greater trochanteric syndrome is a painful situation that arise from the long bone of thigh where it is fixed in the cup of the hip joint (the acetabulum).
You need to consult an Orthopedist who may go for an MRI to see for the cause of the disease. The treatment goes accordingly.
For pain you may take Fioricet with codeine.
Apply ThermaCare HeatWraps on the affected area.
Apply Voltaren Gel and massage gently.
Lumbosacral Corset will help you get better soon.
Avoid long time sitting, standing or running. Keep the posture that is most comfortable for you.
No forward bending as flexion causes the stretch on the muscles that is transmitted to the hip joint and spinal vertebrae.
Avoid weight lifting/carrying.
