Suggest Treatment For Restlessness And Muscle Weakness In Hands
Question: I'm concerned about my niece. she is 48 years old and has had a thyroid tumor that was removed and her thyroid and other hormones are out of balance. but my real concern is that she has severe restlessness, and muscle weakness in her hands. she also has hand tremors. our fear is that is could be ALS. She also has some muscle atrophy in her back. could all this be something else?
she has had an MRI and MS has been ruled out.
she has had an MRI and MS has been ruled out.
Brief Answer:
I think it is related to her thyroid disease
Detailed Answer:
Welcome to HCM. She has not had adequate therapy with her thyroid medications, the symptoms that you describe are due to thyroid disorder, you will have to wait at least 6 weeks to see any real changes and if not, the medication doses are changed at about 6 weeks. So at 6 weeks she should be meeting with her doctor to draw labs for her thyroid levels. I do not believe this is ALS. I hope that this helps.
