Suggest Treatment For Retinal Bleeds
Question: I have had retinal bleeds. They are after flying commercial aircraft. My retinal ophthalmic surgeon says there is no link. I have had my cataracts removed by another surgeon. The pressures are 20/22 in both eyes for 8 months. On medication it is xalacom and alphagam(3 times).
What precaution do I take prior to flying?

The relationship between flying and retinal bleed is not established.A pressure of 20/22 after treatment is not acceptable.In a person like you our target pressure is about 16 or depending upon other investigations like gonioscopy and field charting may even be 14.Once we keep the target pressure in this range ,even if there is a momentary rise the pressure is still within normal range and optic nerve damage is minimized.A s optic nerve damage is irreversible
Talk to your doctor about this as you appear to me to be a fit person for a 3 drug regimen.
Keep your blood pressure under control and let us get the intra ocular pressure reduced further.
