Question: I am having extreme problems. I had a lot of dental work in the past. Crowns fillings etc. my mouth then healthy smile great. I have rhematiod arthritis. I've been on methotrexate for several months. All my fillings coming out and I had to have 2 teeth pulled They couldn't be saved The dentist said dry mouth a culprit. I had no idea my dry mouth a health issue not just uncomfortable. I am addressing that now with bioten I saw my rhemy today she says sometimes the RA also the culprit and people have lost teeth. My question is Is there any way to stop the decay of the teeth I have ? They are all loose I can only drink or very soft food Also only 3 days out from having them pulled my mouth still hurting But even if they didn't hurt my bite is off and teeth loose I'm scared to use them afraid they will fall out I appreciate your input. Than you XXXXXXX

Brief Answer:
reduced salivary, increased risk of decay, immunocompromised status

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your query. I have gone through your query.
As far as the teeth loss is concerned, it is secondary to the gum infection and deposits. This is because if your hands are affected with arthritis and if you are not able to clean the teeth properly the teeth gets decayed. Other reason is in case of rheumatoid arthritis with sjogrens syndrome, the salivary secretion will be less, so the cleaning or maintaining oral hygiene function is affected hence you will be prone for gum issue and dental decay. The last reason for your gum issues and teeth loss is the altered immune status secondary to the drugs you are taking for the arthritis.
Nothing to be panic, you can consult an oral physician andget it evaluated. Mean while you can use artificial salivary substitutes like carboxy methyl cellulose, you can use electric tooth brushes and maintain oral hygiene. Get your teeth cleaned regularly by consulting a gum specialist and you can get a topical fluoride application done .
I hope I have answered your query. If you have any queries reply me back. Take care.
